Rumor has it these are the new Mission Inhaler Skates 'War Machine'
Yesterday we reposted what seems to be the new prototype: War Machine from Mission Hockey. From the looks of the skate, they are sticking with what has become a staple in the mission skate line, a lot of white! Whether you like the white skate or not, this boot stands out amongst the rest.
The recent prototype release got me thinking - when did white skates come into the hockey scene? I remember scrounging around grabbing my last few dollars and purchasing my first pair of Mission Amp 6 ice skates. Yes, I purchased Mission ice skates before roller hockey skates. Aside from the Federov Nike's, it was the first time I can remember white really being the focal point of a skate. Mission didn’t fair too well in ice hockey with companies like CCM, Easton and Bauer cornering the market. From there, Mission really put all of its eggs into the roller hockey basket, where it all started. One of the things it was most known for was the “white skate”. It started with the VSI/Wicked Lights, Soldiers and Helium 950’s. Then, it progressed to the Axiom Revolts and Inhalers. Now keep in mind the Inhalers and Axioms have gone through a few phases from white to black and back to white again. I am talking about the OG Mission Inhalers which were released before some of you were born.
At the time I loved the white skate. It stood out compared to the Tours and Bauers of the world. Mission was known as a company who pushed the limits with technology and design. Whether it was the airflow tongue and toe cap, or introducing the lightest Hi-Lo chassis on the market. Mission was simply doing more for roller than any other company at the time. I’ll never forget those Mission commercials with legends like TK, Kirk French and Raf Rodrigues.
The issue I always had with Mission was the fit. I always found them to be clunky. It was never an aesthetics thing for me, it was always a fit thing. In the past few years, Mission has adopted its big brother's (Bauer) mentality. Now the Mission Roller Hockey skate is identical to the Bauer Supreme Ice skate. This has really changed the game for Mission, considering there is significant crossover in our sport. Now players I speak with swear by the Mission Inhaler FZ-0. Mission really hit the nail on the head with the accent colors and keeping true to their patented white boot.
The future looks pretty similar for the revolutionary company as the new prototype hit social media last week. Mission has reversed the colors a bit with giving the prototype a white toe cap and black accents on the heal, contrary to the black toe cap and white heel on the Inhaler FZ-0. You will also notice the Mission is keeping their partnership alive with Labeda and has decided to include one of the best wheels on the market: the newly released White Addiction. One thing personally I love about these Prototype skates is the colorful Kryptonium Chassis. Not only is this the most highly coveted chassis on the market, the red and yellow accents make this chassis look sick! I think now that I am older, I do prefer the black boot over the white, which I think the War Machine does a really good job with.
All in all, the roller world has been dying for some new technology. Here at RDN, we try to bring you the latest and greatest there is and something like this is always worth writing about. I can't wait to see the official release and get a chance to try out this prototype.
There isn't an official release date yet. Once we find out the release date we will announce on our website!
